Australia at OEC - MIT LAB

The ideia of have Australia as just a commodities exporter, doesn’t make any sense at all. Since there are many details in Australian exports, like the notion of “exports of education”, with the exchange programs industry. Something like that can be seen in middle east, where societies like Qatar, Bahrein and Arabic Emirates, are following the path of financial services exports ( taking the place that in older times have belonged to countries such as Switzerland , and British islands). Panamá, can also be seen as another example of services exports based country, which has became obvious since the leaks in Panamá Papers.
There are enormous difficulties in measure services export’s , that can make some models unable to capture this details. However, since when we to services exports we are looking to a context in which high paying jobs (white collars) stay in the country, without the need to keep the production phase with low paying jobs (blue collar) in the society.
In a overview speak about economic complexity, is know that the agent doesn’t have job by the usual patterns, but the agent is able to turn knowledge in products (as Hidalgo speaks in the video). It gets clear, if we thing in a chemical engineer, someone who already understands about pH, then when someone with this profile starts to enjoy aquariums as a hobby, it’s easy to see this hobby becoming a company.
Taking a look at the context in Shenzen – China we are able to see that many companies starts with someone that was already handling some kind of knowledge, for other’s. So, when that agent leaves the job he already is used to turn the knowledge in products, and already is used to the business details in the process. At this point the agent will be able to act as third-party supplying to his preview employer ( B787), or start his own company (DJi, Huawei…) in the process of specialization. (Blanchard describes this process in sections 12-2 e 12-3 of his Macroeconomics texbook).
The perspective that I’m building will follow the path of "Export services in postindustrial society"(LINK) .

And getting back to the Australian case, many of the country exports will happen in his own land trough the industries of Exchange program’s and tourism.
